The Symbolic Camera

My symbolic camera was designed to fuse a representation of an old-school camcorder with the stereotypical picket sign. The camcorder is what I think of when I think of videography at marches in the 70s and is representative of the roots of video activism.

The sign shows empowering activist images and slogans on the front, and on the back shows the eyes of those who will watch the video, and therefore bear witness, intermingled with the eyes of animals, watching us.

Serendipitously, on top of the box that I used for the camcorder it read

 "stop following, take the lead."
